    Change assert to allow for the cancelling of the update

VMHasElementsUpdate.java

    Change assert to allow for the cancelling of the update.

VMViewerUpdate.java

    Create a negative status when an update is cancelled. Otherwise the getData() will be called and used when there is no valid data.
